On 15th May, 1858, Lord Stanley wrote to the Governor of the Bahamas as follows:- "You are probably aware that the presence of Unofficial Members in a merely Executive Council is not a common feature in Colonial Constitutions!"
On the 6th May, 1868, the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos in addressing the Governor of the Bahamas stated that he considered an Executive Council was more conveniently composed of official officers than of official and unofficial members and therefore so long as the number remains 9, it would seem some should be nominally official members."
Then on 16th August, 1875, the Earl of Carnarvon in a Confidential ...
